2010 Partnership Effort

Here is our 500 character "Executive Summary" Chairman's submittal for Strength of Partnership:
The professional mentors are excellent role models for Team 1629 students and inspire them to pursue similar careers in engineering.  The team showed appreciation to their partners by providing a special appreciation lunch at each of their partners facilities, including hot dogs, burgers, and a demonstration of last seasons robot.  This season and last, the team provided a special Valentines Day dinner to their professional mentors and their wives during this build season.
Team 1629 can easily demonstrate our year-round commitment to our partnership effort in the 2009/2010 team year as well as prior years by highlighting the following points:
Without our Partners and Sponsors, Team 1629 would not exist.  We do everything we can to honor them throughout the year.
Links on our web Site: we have a page dedicated to our Partners and Sponsors.  Brief descriptions of their contributions, links to their web sites, and we provide praise of their continual work in helping us out.

Partner/Sponsor Lunch:  In the off-season we host a lunch.  We bring all the food and gather to feed all the people that make our success possible.

Off-season meetings: we hold routine off season meeting with our sponsors and mentors to fine tune things from the last season and prepare for the coming season.

Valentine's Dinner:  Once a year we host a dinner for our partners, sponsors, and mentors at our home.  We set up tables (complete with tablecloths and candles), act as waiters, and serve a nice meal to our partners, sponsors, and mentors and their spouses.

Mentoring FLL/FTC/Sea Perch/SuGo/Tech Camps:  We work with FLL, FTC, Sea Perch, hold week long "Tech Camps" for elementary students and also hold SuGo programs in the off-season in our commitment with our sponsorship with the Garrett County School Board partnership.  Not only does it help promote science, technology and math in the county, it serves as an excellent recruiting activity!

We work with the local Rotary Club and firemen to design, build, support, and continually refine "Sparky".  This is a walking and talking robotic Fire Hydrant.  It is used by the Rotary and firemen during school presentations on fire safety.  Sparky really helps bring things to life, makes the presentation more enjoyable and memorable, and might even serve to get kids interested in robots!
